My Favorite Beauty Products - Balance Me rose otto body balm

Published by at 04:41

The Product:
A solid, intensely moisturising body balm that melts in the palm of your hand and is applied like an oil.

What they say:
"A richly hydrating rose otto body butter which literally melts into the skin. Perfect to help hydrate extremely dry skin, to shield it from pollution and to leave it silky soft and lightly shimmering." - balanceme.co.uk

Key Ingredients:
Rose otto oil, jojoba oil and sweet almond oils.

What I say:
Pros:  I inherited my mothers dry skin, no matter how much water I ingest I still battle with scaly skin.  (Not sexy)  This is the most effective moisturiser I have discovered and it's full of all those good ingredients I don't mind soaking into my skin daily and very little of the toxins I try to avoid.  (very sexy)

Cons: It does leave your skin a little oily which isn't always ideal for clothing. My advice is to use a small amount and allow a few minutes for it to absorb into your skin before getting dressed or wearing light colored leather shoes. ( I speak from personal experience, my light tan sandals weren't damaged just discolored for half a day.  I don't think anyone noticed but me. I'm a little OCD. ; ))

Tip: If you have longer dry hair wipe the excess off your hands into the ends of your hair.

In conclusion Balance Me's Rose Otto Body Balm is totally worth the £20 price tag. If you're lucky you will find it on sale like I did today! I bought three. That's me moisturised for the rest of the year....well maybe.

Available at Waitrose, Ocado and Balance Me in the UK.

My Top 5 Tips for Shopping on Ebay

Published by at 16:32

With the crazy amazing "heatwave" going on in London right now I'm on a bit of a scramble for cute and comfortable summer clothes. Last year I took almost all my warm weather wear back to the States thinking I was never ever going to need it dreary cold London. I've never been so happy to be so wrong.  Since I'm on a budget, I decided the best way to build my london 2013 summer wardrobe was on eBay.  Here's my approach to winning on eBay.  And a few my summer scores.

1.  Search for something specific - I usually know what I am looking for ex: a silk summer dress, black leather sandals, a grey silk blend tank top, red deer antlers ( yes that's right deer antlers. I want to buy some paint them white and hang them on my wall).  First I plug the specific words into the eBay search engine. Then I start to narrow it down by category, size, material, brand, color and if it's a larger item location. I have found a few what I like to call indie luxury brands that I know I can rely on for style and quality and I will look for them in the brand section and only click the ones I know. It makes it easier to browse.

2. Search Lowest Price first - After I have narrowed down my search to a few hundred items I then choose to view them by the lowest price first.

3. Use the watch list - When I see something I like I click on the thumbnail and go the items page then I click through the images and look to see if I'm really interested. Then I look at the buyers score if it's below 98% I leave the page immediately. If it's above but under 100% I click at the negative comments and see what they are for. If the seller has sold thousands of things chances are it was a complaint by a complaining person and not a direct reflection on the seller. Then I check the seller's description and check what the fabric is. I don't love synthetic so I try and stay away from polyester clothes and faux leather shoes but that is just my preference you might find you have others so make a mental note to always check that before you watch the item. If the item I am watching has 0 bids I bid a very low amount and if it already has bids I just wait. You will find out why in tip 5.  But don't skip 4 it's an important one too and we don't want it to feel left out.

4. Get the eBay app - If you have a smart phone download the eBay app. I've won many items while having drinks with friends. It's such a rush to be win a bid and while out living my life. Then when I win I get to share it with whomever I'm with and we all cheer it's  very exciting. Ok I might be exaggerating a little bit about the cheering but they are happy for me and we do have a little happy moment.

5. Be a sniper/ The Price is Right bidder - Hide in the eBay shadows until the very last second and I mean  like 12 seconds left on the clock. If there are other sniper bidders this is the best way to get the item you are coveting at the lowest price. Decide the maximum amount you want to spend and then at a few minutes to the auction end time type that in plus $1.51 more but don't confirm it. You will be tempted but use the patience you were hopefully taught as a child. Sit and watch the clock count down or use the timer on your phone as a alarm and feel the butterflies flutter in your tummy in anticipation of a win. Then between 18 and 12 seconds confirm and hopefully you will be the highest bidder but the price of the time will have only gone up about a dollar and as the time hits 0s you should be announced as the winner. Ding Ding Ding!  Amazing!  Bask in the glory of your victory for a few moments then go straight to paypal and pay for your newly won item so you get it asap.

Here's a few things I've won recently.....

Kurt Geiger Leather Sandals - £3.34             Sterling Silver Siam Niello Bracelet - £17.51
All Saints Silk/ Cotton Dress - £11.75                           All Saints Silk Dress - £12.49
Winter Kate Silk Dress - £19.99

My Favorite Products - Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense Hair Conditioner Review

Published by at 13:17

The Product:
Thermo-reactive Masque to provide intense nourishment for dry and sensitised hair. This product provides nutrition to the hair with intense nourishment while the hair looks and feels softer and is much easier to untangle.

What they say:

"Our first thermo-reactive range to provide intense nourishment for very dry, sensitised hair.
Intensified by heat, the nourishing formula envelopes the hair fibre leaving very dry, sensitised hair looking and feeling soft, shiny and more supple." - Kerestase Website

Key Technology:
- Glucose: Provides an energetic boost for the nutrition of the hair fibre.
- Proteins: Restore the nutritive deficiencies on the lengths, leaving the hair nourished and steeped in softness.
- Lipids: Create a shield on the fibre’s surface to protect it from the drying out process.

What I say:

My hair has always been dry. Even as a child I remember leaving conditioner on my hair for hours hoping it would be as shiny and healthy as my sister's. It never seemed to work. Until one day years later while looking for a solution to my then even drier bleach blonde bob I was introduced to Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense.  It was expensive but I needed moisture and I needed it ASAP. From the first use my frizzy frazzled hair looked smooth and less stressed. It also felt softer than it ever has in it's life. Even my sister noticed a difference. Ha! take that sis I can have beautiful shiny soft hair too! Oh woe sorry, that was a bit much. Basically this is the only product that leaves my hair soft, shiny and smooth without feeling heavy and weighed down.

Sigur Ros - Fjögur Píanó video with Shia Labeouf and Denna Thompson and some butterflies.

Published by at 03:41

Just discovered this today while trying to get some work done. I am in awe of what some humans can create. I found this piece extremely inspiring, intense, humorous and beautiful.

Here is short description from the creator Alma Har'el...

A short story.
A man and a woman locked in a never ending cycle of addiction and desire.
Slowly losing their ability to separate themselves from each other, they try to hold on to dead fleeting moments
as they mark the days passing them by.

What are your thoughts?

Nicole Richie Launches House of Harlow 1960 Clothing

Published by at 08:00

While the future king of England was being born and hogging the headlines the ex-best friend of Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, quietly launched the first clothing items for her label House of Harlow 1960 on Shopbop. The 5 rock-n- roll inspired pieces are all black (thank you and yes please) and two feature wicked laser cut designs.  My fav being the The Jett Dress $195.00.  If I were you I'd get over to Shopbop quickly as the Piper Pant has already SOLD OUT!

So what do we think? Love em?  Hate em? Meh? Let me know in the comment section.

My favorite Products - CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara Review

Published by at 06:41

Cover Girl Clump Crusher Mascara

The Product:
CoverGirl's Clump Crusher Mascara has been on my radar since I read about it in Allure as one of their 2012 breakthrough products. To be honest I had a hard time finding it but finally found in a drug store. Target and the few grocery stores I tried didn't carry this particular Cover girl Mascara. I think now Target does carry it regularly. : )

What they say:
No Clumps. The bristles on the brush are positioned close together so there are no clumps left on your lashes. Even after 30 swipes on the lashes, no clumps! 200% more volume.

 What I say:
It's true! No clumping and very nice, clean feathery lashes.  It has a decent lengething and volumizing    effect but I did notice a bit of flaking at the end of the day so I wouldn't reccomend for a long day.

What it looks like:

Price Point:  Around 6$ - $8

David Bowie IS at the Victoria and Albert

Published by at 07:08

One of my favourite movies is The Labrynth. My sister and I must have watched it at least a hundred times growing up and I have revisited it many times as an adult, falling in love with it more and more with each viewing. Jareth, played by David Bowie, is my favourite character, next to Ludo of course. Who doesn't love Ludo. I had such a big crush on Jareth. I mean seriously the tight black pirate like outfit, the makeup, the hair what was not to swoon over? That was my first introduction to David Bowie.  Then one my best friends named her dog Bowie in honor of the creative legend peaking my interest again (I remember thinking "I really need to learn more about this Bowie guy"), and most recently the hilarious duo Flight of the Chonchords',  Bowie's in Space.  I knew I liked David Bowie but until I visited the David Bowie IS exhibit at the V&A I didn't know I LOVED David Bowie. Dudes!!! How can one man have so much artistry in him? The music, the movie's, and the mime?  I knew he had a habit of wearing makeup, the iconic lightning bolt, but didn't know how often and how amazing his cosmetics adventures were. Jareth is still my favourite but here are some of my fav makeup looks from David Bowie's career.......

The iconic lightning bolt from the Aladdin Sane album cover. Duh!!!!

The cover for the PinUps album with Twiggy. Apparently the mask idea came from Twiggy's tan. The different tones in their skin didn't compliment one another so Pierre made Twiggy's face pale and David's tan. Read more about the shoot here....

Aitken Jolly Photographer | Maxine Leonard Makeup

Published by at 19:26

I discovered the beauty story above one afternoon while browsing through an old issue of Wonderland Magazine with the oh so wonderful looking Zac Efron on the cover. The powerful simplicity of the makeup moved me as I studied each image over and over. Looking at the credits I discovered the makeup was done by Maxone Leonard and the photography was by Aitken Jolly. I was so moved by their work I went hunting online for more. The following are a few images I found that made me say awe, ooh, yes. Basically I loved them. I think the top ones will be my summer makeup inspiration.

I'm not sure who did the makeup on the last two images but I loved them so much I had to include them.

The Great Gatsby Soundtrack

Published by at 19:35

My incredibly clued up friend Brett Warren has me so excited about the new Great Gatsby movie directed by Baz Lurhman. The other day we were editing images ( he's also an extremely talented photographer) and we watched the trailer too many times to mention.  As with all of Baz Lurhmans films the music stood out as a character of it's own.  After being emotionally moved by what I heard and then buying the Lana Del Rey Single Young and Beautiful I wanted more. A quick google search sent me to NPR's First Listen where you can stream the entire soundtrack produced by Jay-Z and featuring Beyonce, Will.i.am, Gotye, Florence and the Machine and Sia.  I can't stop listening. It's nothing ground breaking just fun music fit for a twenties themed over the top garden party....which I will be attending in full on twenties attire. Don't worry I'll post photos. : )
